9 Habits of Healthy Living That You Should Develop Quickly

There are two factors responsible for a healthy lifestyle: dedication and consistency. But a third factor stops us from pursuing it fully: time. So, what if you only have to develop some habits of healthy living to stay fit?

Living healthy might require dedication, but it isn’t rocket science. A healthy life will be within your reach through the changes I’ll discuss with you.

1. Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Your first meal should be your best. It should charge your body as you move forward with the day.

However, when pressed for time, you must condense all the nutrition into one quick bowl. A nutty bowl of cereal has it all. Vitamin D, calcium, and potassium from milk strengthen your bones and fill you up in one go.

Protein from nuts gives you strength, and fiber from cereal ensures proper bowel movement.

2. Leave for Work With an Apple

An apple can be your go-to energy appetizer. A 3-inch apple is equal to around 1.5 cups of fruit. It can cover 75% of the daily fruit requirement of 2 cups in a 2000-calories-a-day diet.

Its size also makes it easy to carry around. Are you rushing for work? Keep an apple in one hand and office essentials in the other.

Enjoy this healthy little appetizer on your way to work. The energy flowing in through this fruit will charge your steps.

3. Keep a Bottle of Water with You

Staying hydrated is synonymous with being healthy. It not only maintains your body temperature but also ensures that your organs are operating fluidly.

Eight glasses a day isn’t that hard to do. But if pressed for time, take a water bottle with you. It doesn’t have to be a big one.

Just make sure that you drink enough so that you need to refill it from time to time.

4. Drink Lukewarm Water After a Hearty Meal

After you have binged on food, don’t go for the cold water. It interacts with the fats you eat and makes them gelatinous.

Cold water turns the body’s attention towards maintaining temperature, which should really be towards digestion.

Drink lukewarm water instead. It’s a healthier option with many benefits, including weight loss, stress reduction, and better digestion.

5. Walk 8,000 Small Steps a Day

Walking is perhaps one of the most important habits of healthy living. It takes us from point A to point B while we exert ourselves. It’s also the most natural form of exercise we do daily.

So, try to walk 8000 steps every day. Does the number seem too big? Trust me, it isn’t. You can probably complete it along with your daily chores.

Eight thousand steps are equivalent to 4 kilometers and burning 220 calories. So, if you are trying for weight loss, start walking.

6. Add Salads to Your Diet

Salads are simple meals of raw veggies. Adding uncooked veggies to your cooked meals puts the digestive tract on the right track.

Additionally, salads can be meals for themselves. Plus, they are easy to assemble, even with only a single ingredient.

My favorite is cucumber salad. A -ingredient salad, one bowl of it has done wonders for my stomach and will probably do the same for you.

7. Take Long Breaths While You Are Sitting

The human mind is restless. Even when you are sitting, the stress can make your heart race. It then gives rise to anxiety, which further multiplies the stress even more.

A wrong breathing pattern is one of the most prominent causes of stress.

What you need to do is to relax by breathing slowly. Matthew McKinnon of Psychology Today has given an exercise for mind-full breathing:

  • Inhale, then count to four.
  • Exhale, then count to six.
  • Repeat the process six times.

Relaxation will soon start to set in — removing the stress and increasing your life span.

8. Bend Your Knees To Pick Stuff Up From the Ground

Do you bend your back to pick heavy stuff from the ground? In doing so, you are ensuring that your body goes hunched when it grows old.

The spine is made to support the torso. Thighs and knees are meant to aid you in picking up stuff.

Therefore, bend your knees and squat to pick up heavy loads. It prevents your spine from getting strained and strengthens your leg and thigh muscles.

9. Give 15 Minutes of Your Day To Exercise

How much do you crave a healthy lifestyle? If you don’t have time, the best thing to do is to “Make Time.” Free up at least 15 minutes of your day and give that time to exercise.

Do 15 minutes of cardio for six times a week. Give 15 minutes to weight training thrice a week. It’s the right exercise balance for beginners strapped for time.
